Silly Detective Academy — Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 24, 2026. This policy covers Silly Detective Academy for Android and Windows, made by Niagara Indie Apps, and its free web demo. It applies to both app editions: the one on Google Play and the one downloaded from niagaraindieapps.com. Silly Detective Academy is a game for children aged 6 to 10. It has no accounts and needs no internet connection to play.

The game contains no advertising, no analytics, no crash-reporting services and no tracking. It does not ask for location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos. Children cannot chat, share, post or upload anything, and the game does not send any information about the child to us.

The optional nickname, game progress (stars, clues, collectibles, badges, favourites and which kinds of puzzles have been solved) and settings are stored only on the device. Installed Investigation Packs are kept in the app's private storage. A grown-up can save a backup file from the Parent Area. It contains progress and settings only, and it goes wherever the grown-up chooses to save it. Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored.

When narration is on, the game reads text aloud using the device's own text-to-speech voice. The game never records audio. Narration can be switched off in the Parent Area.

Settings, backups, license activation, Investigation Packs and links to this website sit behind an adult gate: the grown-up types a number that is written out in words. The child area shows no prices, purchase buttons or outside links.

The edition downloaded from niagaraindieapps.com includes a free 3-day trial. To run it, the app stores the time it was first opened, the latest time it has seen, and a random ID it creates when installed, in the device's secure storage. That ID is not a hardware, advertising or Windows product ID. Nothing is sent to us during the trial.

After the trial, a grown-up can unlock the game with a license bought on this website, and can activate licenses for add-on packs the same way. When a license is activated, and when the app later re-checks it while online, the app sends the following to our license server at niagaraindieapps.com: • the license key • this app's ID • the random device ID described above • the platform (Android or Windows) and the app version Our server stores a one-way hash of that device ID, the platform, the app version, and when the device was activated and last checked. It also records the IP address of each license request in a license activity log. We use this only to verify licenses, enforce their limit of 2 devices, and prevent license abuse. The child's nickname, progress and settings are never sent.

Add-on Investigation Packs are optional and sold separately. A grown-up can add a pack file from the Parent Area; the app checks that it is an unchanged, signed Niagara Indie Apps pack before installing it. The list of available packs is built into the app, and "Buy on website" opens niagaraindieapps.com in the browser.

The Google Play edition has no trial and never contacts our license server. Add-on packs in that edition are bought through Google Play, which handles the payment; the app only learns which packs the Google account owns. Google's own privacy policy applies to Google Play purchases.

The free demo on niagaraindieapps.com runs in the browser. It keeps its progress in the browser's own storage on that device and has no Parent Area, purchases or licenses. To run, the browser downloads the Flutter web engine and fonts from Google's servers (gstatic.com), which, like any web request, see the browser's IP address.

Website licenses are bought by a grown-up on niagaraindieapps.com. The information given at checkout (such as an email address) is covered by the site-wide Privacy Policy at niagaraindieapps.com/privacy. Card payments are processed by Stripe, and we never receive the full card number.

Uninstalling Silly Detective Academy deletes the data it stored on the device. Progress can also be erased from the Parent Area (Reset). To free a device from a license, use Parent Area → Full game → Remove in the app, or niagaraindieapps.com/license/manage. To ask us to delete the license records we hold, contact us as described below.

If a future version of Silly Detective Academy changes how it handles data, we will update this page before that version is released.
